LAWYER ASKS COURT TO LOCK UP ZALOUMIS

A matter in which Nevers Mumba and Felix Mutati  are fighting for the leadership of the MMD took a twist when Mr. Mutati’s lawyer, asked the court to send a witness Winnie Zaloumis  to prison for seven days.
Lawyer, Jonas Zimba wanted the witness to go to jail for being hostile and for having willfully refused to respond to a question put to her.
But, Lusaka High Court Judge, Sharon Newa saved Ms Zaloumis from serving a week-long jail term when she gave her an opportunity to explain reasons as to why she had refused to respond to a question.

Ms Zaloumis used the opportunity to apologise and promised to respond to the question.
Ms Zaloumis had refused to respond to a question by Mr. Zimba as to whether the meeting which was held last year at Ibis Gardens in Chisamba had resolved to appoint one of the MMD members, Elizabeth Chitika as party National Secretary.
This is in a case in which Ms Zaloumis in her capacity as MMD Acting National secretary for the Dr Mumba led faction sued Raphael Nakachinda, Mwansa Mbulakulima and George Kangwa challenging the legality of the convention that elected Felix Mutati in  2016 a  MMD president.
When the case came up today, the court was informed that Makebi Zulu and Advocates who had abandoned the Mutati MMD faction the previous day had been re-engaged.
As the matter continued through cross examination, Mr. Zimba asked Ms Zaloumis whether one of the things she wanted the court to do was to issue an order to recognize Dr MUMBA, herself and two others as office bearers of the MMD to which she responded in the affirmative.
Among the issues she wants the court to determine is the issue of the convention which was held from May 20 to May 22, 2016.
Mr. Zimba also put it to Ms Zaloumis that the same issues which she wants to be determined by the court were already tabled before another Judge Annie Sharpe-Phiri and were dismissed and she responded in the affirmative.
