Lands tribunal to be decentralised

Cabinet has approved introduction in parliament the Lands Tribunal -Amendment- Bill, of 2024.

The Bill is to amend the Lands Tribunal Act Number 39 of 2010, in order to provide for the establishment of a principal registry, regional registry; and the appointment of an Assistant Registrar.

Chief Government Spokesperson, CORNELIUS MWEETWA says currently, the Lands Tribunal only has one registry situated in Lusaka.

Mr MWEETWA who is also Information and Media Minister says the decisions were made during the 4th Cabinet Meeting in Lusaka.

Cabinet has also approved the Matrimonial Causes Amendment Bill of 2024 to be tabled in Parliament in an effort to stop child marriages in the country.

The Matrimonial Causes Amendment Bill also seeks to amend the current matrimonial causes Act of 2007 which is inconsistent with the provisions of the recently enacted Children’s Code Act of 2022.

Cabinet also approved the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education Amendment Bill of 2024, the Civil Aviation Amendment Bill of 2024 and the Zambia Qualifications Authority Bill of 2024.

Meanwhile, Mr. MWEETWA said Cabinet has approved the hosting of the Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka and the commemoration of the 2024 National Youth Week.
