LAND DISPUTES KEEP INVESTORS AT BAY

Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Lawrence Sichalwe says land disputes among chiefs in the country are a threat to economic development as they scare investors.Mr. Sichalwe was speaking when he visited Chiefs Shimbizhi and Kaingu of the Ila people of   Itezhi Tezhi district in Central Province.The Minister said Government has enhanced the 1958 chiefdom maps with topographical features that will help resolve widespread chief boundaries in the country.Chief Shimbizhi and Kaingu have been rocked in protracted chiefdom boundaries for a number of years.Widespread conflicts of chiefdom boundaries among chiefs such as Shezongo and Musungwa in Itezhi Tezhi have raged for years.The chiefs in Itezhi Tezhi asked the minister to help solve their unending land disputes.Chief Shimbizhi has always insisted the use of the 1958 map which indicates that Choongo and Ikonkaile fall under his territory while Chief Kaingu has maintained that the 1958 map has anomalies and prefers the 1930 maps.Meanwhile Chief Shimbizhi has thanked government for numerous development projects that have transformed people’s lives in Itezhi Tezhi.He said that the construction of the modern bus station, the tarring of the D769 Road and the construction of a power station have improved infrastructure in the district.
