Lusaka, Zambia24 (29-04-2024) – The opposition United National Independence Party (UNIP) recently commemorated the legacy of Zambia’s first president, Dr. Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda (KK), urging Zambians to uphold his values.

Engiwe Mziache, a Member of the Central Committee and a prospective candidate for Kabwata Constituency, emphasized KK’s role within UNIP and his enduring influence on Zambia, symbolized by the party’s colors, when her party donated assorted humpers to newly born babies at Chilenji First Level Hospital this morning.

Mziache explained that the party chose to celebrate the birth of newborns on April 28th, coinciding with the former president’s birthday, to honor his legacy.

The national colors, she elaborated, represent more than just unity; they embody the motto “One Zambia, One Nation” and underscore the investment in people.

Additionally, Mziache said the colors symbolize the sacrifices made for Zambia’s sovereignty and the importance of preserving traditions and values, including natural resources, for future generations.

Mziache stressed the need to protect the environment and wildlife habitats.

She urged the newborns to embrace these values and contribute to Zambia’s advancement, echoing KK’s vision of unity and progress.

Mziache concluded by emphasizing the importance of honoring KK’s legacy and fostering values that promote unity, progress, and the well-being of all Zambians.

She said it is essential for the people of Zambia to emulate the selfless lifestyle of their first president, Dr. Kenneth David Buchizya Kaunda, who dedicated his life to the service of the nation.

Dr. Kaunda’s legacy of selfless sacrifice, humility, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of Zambia serves as a beacon of inspiration for all.

She said following his example will contribute to the collective prosperity and unity of the nation.

Embracing qualities such as compassion, integrity, and a spirit of solidarity will not only honor KK’s memory but also pave the way for a brighter future for Zambia.

According to Mziache, Dr. Kaunda’s legacy extends beyond politics, and he championed the philosophy of humanism, emphasizing the inherent dignity and worth of every individual.

This spirit of humanism guided his policies and actions, ensuring that the most vulnerable members of society received support and assistance.

“As we reflect on his life and contributions, let us not forget the importance of compassion and empathy towards those in need,” she stated. Embracing the principles of humanism can create a society where every Zambian is valued, respected, and provided with the necessary support to thrive.”

Gloria Zulu, a coverage nurse at Chilenje Level One Hospital, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the UNIP for their generous donation to the newborn babies.

She commended UNIP for their compassion and commitment to the well-being of the community, noting the significant impact of such donations on the health and happiness of the newborns and their families.

Zulu emphasized the importance of collective efforts in supporting healthcare initiatives and ensuring that every child receives a healthy start in life.

She said the gesture from UNIP reflects a spirit of solidarity and care that resonates deeply within the community and serves as an example of how political parties can positively contribute to the welfare of society.
