Kitwe City Council`S Failure To Ensure Nkana Water And Sewerage Company Provides Water In Toilets At Kitwe’s Buchi Market Angers Chiteme

By Michael Kaluba

Nkana constituency Member of Parliament Alexander Chiteme has taken a swipe at the Kitwe city council for failing to ensure Nkana water and Sewerage Company provides water in the toilets at Kitwe’s Buchi market amidst the covid-19 pandemic despite collecting levies from Marketeers.

Mr. Chiteme is of the view that water challenges should be a thing of the past in modern markets built around the district and has since directed Nkana water and sewerage company to immediately connect Buchi market to the city water reticulation system to allow the 550 Marketeers that trade at the facility to work in a habitable environment and further donated k1000 towards the purchase of water units.

Mr Chiteme who is also national planning minister donated K100 000 as empowerment fund for 200 women at the market to immediately access loans to grow their businesses.

He has handed over the money to the association of vendors and Marketeers -AVEMA- who he has directed to use the K100 000 as a revolving fund to empower more women with loans.

And AVEMA president Abel Chikwa has called on Marketeers to use the loans prudently to help the association grow the amount and enable others access it in the future.
