KCM To Shutdown Smelter Within 48 Hours Due To Operational Accident

Konkola Copper Mines –KCM- management says it will shut down its nchanga smelter within 48hours due to an accident that occurred this morning around 06:00 hours.

KCM Corporate Affairs General Manager, Eugene Chungu says the accident occurred at the cobalt recovery furnace of the nchanga smelter which has resulted into a runout of slag materials.

Mr. Chungu explains that the accident has forced management to shut down the smelter before the planned schedule and will be shut for more than a month.

Further, Mr. Chungu says the company is committed to improving operations at Konkola underground and Nchanga underground mines, and stabilize operations across the company.
