KCM Accident Kills Miner

Chingola, Zambia, 09 August 2018: It is with great sadness that Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) confirms that an accident at Konkola Mine Shaft No. 4 on Wednesday 8th August 2018, claimed the life of a KCM Business Partner employee. No one else was injured in the incident that occurred in Chililabombwe. The deceased’s next-of-kin have been informed, and his details are being withheld to protect the privacy of his family.

All of us at KCM and Vedanta are devastated by the sad news, and commit to assisting the family of the deceased during and after this difficult period.

All work at the particular section of Konkola Underground Mine Shaft 4 has been halted while investigations – involving the local emergency services, Police, the Mine Safety Department, our representative trade unions and senior KCM Management and operations structures – are underway.
