KAZUNGULA PONTOONS BREAKDOWN

OPERATIONS at Kazungula border in Southern Province have temporarily slowed down following the breakdown of two main pontoons on the Zambezi River between Zambia and Botswana.
This breakdown of the ferries one from Zambian side and another from Botswana has resulted into traffic being slowed down. A check by the Daily Nation at the border found only one small Zambian pontoon operating out of the three.
The breakdown of the pontoons had also translated into the re-routeing of trucks from Kazungula border to Victoria Falls border in Livingstone. Some engineers from ESCO who were found working on the broken down pontoons confirmed the development to the Daily Nation.The engineers who sought anonymity said that the ferry development a fault earlier this week while the Botswana one broke down last week. Asked on when the pontoons would be operational, the engineers said that the Zambian ferry will be back on track by the end of the week.
