By Ruth Chayinda:
National Union for Small Scale farmers of Zambia President Frank Kayula has welcomed President Edgar Lungu’s call for the country NOT to import agriculture products which can easily be grown in the country .
Mr Kayula says farmers have the capacity to meet the demands for agricultural products and should be given the opportunity to do so.
He says what has been hindering most small-scale farmers from enhancing their production is lack of linkages to markets and financial support.
Mr. Kayula notes that local farmers have been able to sustain the maize market and will do the same with the large-scale production of vegetables if well supported .
Yesterday whilst in Chisamba ,President Lungu said there is no reason why Zambia should continue importing things that can be grown in the country saying that this will not happen under his watch.
