KAWANU denied bail

Commercial Pilot PATRICK KAWANU, who is one of the espionage suspects linked to the recent Gold Scam, has been denied bail by the Lusaka High Court.

Lusaka High Court Judge GEOFFREY MULENGA has turned down Mr. KAWANU’s bail application on grounds that the Director of Public Prosecutions -DPP- has issued a Certificate of Denial of Bail against all the espionage suspects pertaining to the Gold Scam.

Earlier in his bail application, Mr. KAWANU contended that the Certificate of the Denial of Bail issued by the DPP against the espionage suspects does not meet the requirements of the Criminal Procedure Code.
