Zambia Women national team head coach Bruce Mwape has heaped praise on U-20 graduate Evarine Susan Katongo saying the youngster is a very good player.

Mwape told the ZamFoot Crew in an exclusive interview that Katongo was fitting well in training and just needed a little time to become a great player. Mwape is confident Katongo is a great asset for the future.

Mwape also confirmed that he will trim the squad by the end of this week.

“Susan [Evarine Katongo] is a very good player looking at the way she is training with the team, you could see that given maybe a month or so she will be a great player,” he said.

“We have players we dropped and called in a new group, We are trying to compare the ones we have with the ones who left camp the other week so that we come up with one team by the end of this week,” he added.

Katongo was handed her first national team call-up by coach Bruce Mwape about two weeks ago and made her debut on Saturday against ‘the rest’ in the All-Stars vs the rest friendly match.

The Luyando Foundation Girls star player has been fantastic for her club in the Lusaka Women Provincial League scoring nine goals and setting up seven others.

The Copper Queens are currently in camp as part of preparations for the Olympic Games. Zambia has so far played Chile whom they beat 2-1 before losing to South Africa 3-1.

Zambia is in Group F alongside two-time silver medalists, Brazil, 1996 runners-up China and fellow debutants Netherlands.

The Olympics will officially run between 24 July and 9 August 2021, but sporting action kicks off two days before the opening ceremony with preliminary women’s football matches set to light up the occasion for various sports disciplines.
