KASANJIKO MINI HYDRO-POWER STATION LAUNCHED

The Rural Electrification Authority -REA- has launched the 640 kilowatt Kasanjiko Mini Hydro Power Station in Mwinilunga District.

REA Board Chairperson Johnston Chikwanda says the Kasanjiko Power station will supply electricity to over 12,000 people in Ntambo area and surrounding areas of the district.

Mr. Chikwanda says the eight million United-States-dollar Kasanjiko mini hydro power Station is a flagship project and will be replicated in other parts of the country.

Speaking when he met with North Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu in Solwezi, Mr. Chikwanda said sites have been identified in Eastern Province for a similar Mini hydro Power plant in the province.

And Mr. Mubukwanu said government is committed to open the province to investment, adding that the province has the potential to spearhead economic growth in the country.

He said the provision of electricity in rural parts of the province is meant to attract investors in such areas and improve the economy of the country.

Kasanjiko Mini Hydro Power Station is expected to be commissioned in June this year
