Kapiri Mposhi gets New Glass factory

(Zanis) The production of glass products at a multi-million-dollar glass manufacturing company in Kapiri Mposhi District has started.Eagle Glass Company has invested US$15m to set up the factory with production capacity of up to 50,000 tonnes of flat and laminated glass annually.Eagle Glass Managing Director, ZHI ZHAO says the factory is producing glass products for both local and export markets.Speaking when Central Province Permanent Secretary BERNARD CHOMBA toured the factory, Mr. ZHI said 150 local people have so far been employed at the factory.Mr. ZHI assured the Permanent Secretary that the company has embarked on a technology transfer program to empower Zambians to run the factory in the long run.He said the company decided to set up base in the district because of its vast endowment in silica sand which is used in the production of glass products.And Mr. CHOMBA noted that the new glass factory will improve the economic status of the district.He challenged the locals to be patient and support investors setting up businesses in the area.Meanwhile, Kapiri Mposhi Member of Parliament, STANLEY KAKUBO noted that the District has reclaimed its status as a glass manufacturing hub in the country following the setting up of the glass factory.The setting up of Eagle Glass Company comes in the wake of failed attempts to revitalize the defunct Kapiri Glass Products -KGP- which folded operations over 15 years ago.
