KANGOMBE FINED K10,000

United Party for National Development -UPND- Sesheke Member of Parliament Romeo Kang’ombe has been fined 10,000 Kwacha or in default serve 9 months imprisonment with hard labour.

And Kang’ombe has also been sentenced to 9 and 12 months’ imprisonment with hard labour in count 3 and 4 which will run concurrently.

In passing sentencing Kang’ombe this morning when he appeared in the Chinsali magistrate court, Senior Resident Magistrate Julius Malata said he has heard what the convict had said in his mitigation but that the offence committed is serious and common not
only in Muchinga but the entire country especially during the period the country is getting into the campaign period.

Magistrate Matala sentenced Kang’ombe to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour but suspended the sentence to 2 years imprisonment with hard labour in which he should not commit a similar offence.

He further order that the convict in count 2 pays the fine of K10,000 by tomorrow April 13th, 2021 before close of business or in default serve 9 months imprisonment with hard labour.

Magistrate Matala also ordered that the K300 which was paid to the two police officers for transport by the convict be forfeited to the state according to Section 355 of the criminal procedure court chapter 88 of the Laws of Zambia.

Last week, Senior Resident Magistrate Julius Malata found Kang’ombe guilty on charges of assaulting two police officers.

However, the court acquitted Kang’ombe on one count of abduction and found him guilty in count two, three and four.

This is in a case in which Kang’ombe was facing two counts of abduction and two other charges of assault on two police officers.

The incident happened in October last year when UPND president Hakainde Hichilema went to Kasama.
