KAMWALA Magic volleyball team at the weekend dag deep into their energy reserves to beat stubborn Green Buffaloes 3-0 in this exciting week-six Midlands Volleyball Association (MIVA) league game.
Magic, who are the 2015 league champions, had international attacker Tilabilenji Mvunga on hand to demolish the Zambia Army side and go top of the table with 15 points, three clear of second-placed Buffaloes, who are on 12 points.
In the men’s category Green Buffaloes redeemed the soldiers’ pride by beating City of Lusaka 3-1 in a game played at Zamsure Sports Complex on Friday.
Another fixture saw UNZA beat Nkwazi 3-2 in a tightly contested game with the ‘varsity outfit spurred by the partisan home support against the Zambia Police-sponsored side.
The match was evenly contested with both teams showing off their attacking prowess, the win moves UNZA into third position on 15points.
Other results saw UNZA take another 3-2 win and this time off Napsa with Nkwazi going on to thrash Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) 3-1.
Green Eagles added to NCZ’s misery by bashing them 3-0 in a one-sided affair. The win for the Zambia National Service-sponsored outfit has made them move to the top of the men’s league table on 19 points while Buffaloes are second on 18 points.
Two matches were postponed on account of bad lighting and involved Nkwazi against Napsa in the men’s while UNZA were against Nkwazi in the women’s category.
Meanwhile, the league takes a week-long break to allow for the Confederation of African Volleyball Zone-Six qualifiers to be held in Lusaka from July 2-5.
