Kambwili gets new charge

Police have slapped an additional charge of disobedience to lawful orders on detained National Democratic Congress (NDC) consultant Chishimba Kambwili.

The new charge relates to an incident that took place at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport where Kambwili is alleged to have forced himself into a restricted area. The Roan parliamentarian, who had reportedly gone to pick up his wife and children, was captured on CCTV forcing his way past two security personnel who had tried to prevent him fro entering a restricted area.

Footage of the incident has since gone viral on social media.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed that the docket has been forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for further action.

Earlier, Police arrested and charged Kambwili with expression or showing hatred ridicule for persons because of race, tribe or place of origin or colour, contrary to section 70 of the Penal Code, Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

He has since been denied bond.

He arrived at Lusaka Central Police Station around 10:15 hours accompanied by his alliance partners, led by UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema.

Meanwhile, UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his NAREP counterpart Elias Chipimo have described the arrest and detention of Kambwili as dictatorial.
