Kambwili gets bail

The Lusaka Magistrate Court has granted NDC consultant Chishimba Kambwili a K3,000 cash bail with two working sureties.

And the court has set March 13, 2019 and April 9, 2019 as dates for mention and trial respectively.

Kambwili was arrested yesterday and is facing two charges arising from two different incidents.

In the first case, Kambwili is charged with expressing or showing hatred ridicule or contempt for persons because of race, tribe or place of origin or colour contrary to Section 70 of the Penal Code.

This relates to an incident where the former Information and Broadcasting Services Minister was captured on video verbally abusing a man believed to be of  Indian origin who he had found operating a compactor on a road project in Lusaka.

In the second case, Kambwili is accused of disobeying lawful orders contrary to section 127 of the Penal code.

This is in connection with an incident that took place at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport where Kambwili is alleged to have forced himself into a restricted area. The Roan parliamentarian, who had reportedly gone to pick up his wife and children, was captured on CCTV forcing his way past two security personnel who had tried to prevent him fro entering a restricted area.

Footage of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
