Patriotic Front -PF- Member CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI has illegally left the country for Zimbabwe.
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister JACK MWIIMBU says preliminary investigations reveal that Mr. KAMBWILI, who was to be evacuated to South Africa on Thursday for treatment opted to leave for Zimbabwe.
Mr. MWIIMBU says it is reported that on January 30, 2024, an unknown Zimbabwean man presented Mr KAMBWILI’s passport to the immigration officer but left it at the counter when asked to let the holder of the passport present himself to the officer for clearance.
He says Mr. KAMBWILI contravened the law when he crossed into Zimbabwe without clearance by the immigration officer and left his passport behind.
Speaking during a joint press briefing in Lusaka with Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO, Mr. MWIIMBU said Mr. KAMBWILI was driven into Zimbabwe by a vehicle with a Zimbabwean registration plate.
He has further clarified that Mr. KAMBWILI’s passport was not confiscated but left at the immigration office at Chirundu border post.
Mr. MWIIMBU however said Mr. KAMBWILI may still be in Zimbabwe unless he has other documentation to make him leave that country.
And Ms. MASEBO said Mr. KAMBWILI was cleared to be evacuated to seek medical attention in South Africa when he opted to leave for Zimbabwe.
She explained that earlier when the Ministry was facilitating his evacuation, Mr. KAMBWILI requested to be taken to the UK for medical attention but Government could not facilitate because it only has working connections with India and South Africa.
