Just ended IMF mission was grounded in mutual respect – Mwanakatwe

Minister of Finance Margaret Mwanakatwe has described as cordial and grounded in mutual respect the just ended mission by a team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Mrs. Mwanakatwe says the IMF team finished their mission on Friday and have since returned to the IMF Headquarters in Washington, DC, United States of America.

She says her Ministry also hosted and had engagements with IMF Executive Director for the Africa Group One Constituency ,Dumisani Mahlinza, who was on a familiarization tour of Zambia.

Margaret MwanakatweMrs. Mrs. Mwanakatwe states that the IMF team was however in the Country to exchange information on economic data that will facilitate the development of a macroeconomic framework.

In a statement to Q-News Mrs. Mwanakatwe has disclosed that the macroeconomic framework is for use during the Article 4 Consultations, in the first quarter of 2019.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe notes that the framework will also provide a basis for determination of any policy adjustments required going forward.

She says during the mission, the IMF team had engagements with her Ministry, the Bank of Zambia (BoZ), Zambia’s Cooperating Partners, and Non-State Actors.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe says the IMF team comprised of IMF Deputy Director for the African Region, David Robinson and IMF Mission Chief for Zambia, Dan Ghura.

He says other staff that were in the IMF team were specialists in fiscal and macroeconomic framework, monetary and financial affairs, external debt, and real sector matters.
