JUDOKAS TUMBLE

By Joy Siatubi:Zambia got off to a shaky start at the 2019 All Africa games in Morocco, as none of the country’s judokas managed a medal yesterday.Judo was the first sporting discipline to take to the stage for team Zambia at the pan African games.France-based Stephen Mung’andu was the country’s best performer, losing in the bronze finals of the 66KG category to Rebahi Boubekiur of Algeria.In the 60kg bracket, Simon Zulu went down to Tunisia’s DHOUBI FRAJ in the second round, while Taonga Soko, who was competing in the 57kg category was not good enough for Sylvia Marie Sarah of Mauritius.The country’s other judokas, Andrew Kaswanga and Matthews Mwango both bowed out in round one.But judo National Team Coach Moola Lipimile said he is not disappointed with his athletes’ performance.Lipimile has further called for more investment in the sport, stating that preparation for such events is key.Judoka Simon Zulu said competing in the senior’s category for the first time was not easy.Zambia will now hope to reap medals in the other sporting disciplines being represented which include athletics, boxing, badminton, chess equestrian, handball and swimming.
