Journalists have MAJOR say in girl child education-AU

Luyando Hamwala-African Union International Center for Girls and Women in Education AU CIEFFA says journalists have the influence to change the narrative around girl child education.

AU CIEFFA Head of Mission RITA BISSOONAUTH says Journalists can communicate the importance for girls to have equal access to the 12 years of Education as ratified by most African countries.

Dr BISSOONAUTH said journalists and teachers play a critical role in promoting access to education for girls and women in Africa.

She said it is unfortunate that most girls in rural africa are still unable to access education due to different cultures practices and vices such as early marriage and teen pregnancy.

Dr BISSOONAUTH was speaking in an interview at the 4th AU CIEFFA Youth Capacity Building Training for teachers and journalists from 50 African countries held in Namibia Windhoek.

This was under the theme Scaling up Girls and Women’s Education through Gender Intelligence.

Dr BISSOONAUTH said teacher have the power to created positive interaction between girls and boys in school, based on there emotional and gender intelligence.
