The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection has described the revised minimum wage for domestic workers as a drop in the ocean because it does not meet the prevailing cost of living for a family of five.

The cost of living for a family of five living in Lusaka currently stands at K5, 400.

JCTR Executive Director Father Emmanuel Mumba says the increase of the minimum wage from K522 to K993 for domestic workers and others is too little for those living in Lusaka to have three meals in a day.

He has told Q-news in an interview that much as the JCTR appreciates government efforts to improve the living standards of people, more still needs to be done.

Father Mumba says going forward; the JCTR expects government to reconsider the announced minimum.
