Italian To Invest In Nut Production

An Italian investor has expressed interest to invest in the production of Almonds in Zambia.Almonds are edible nuts which are also used to produce chocolates.Agriculture Minister Michael Katambo says government is waiting for the investor to come and survey land in the farm blocks, which would be suitable to produce Almonds.Speaking when Italian Ambassador to Zambia Antonino Maggiore paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Lusaka, Mr. Katambo said the interest by Italian investors to invest in Zambia’s agriculture sector signifies the growing commercial relations between he two countries.Mr. Katambo says Zambia has land in the farm blocks that needs investors especially in the area of irrigation, adding that increased investment will help local small-scale farmers improve their farm production.And, Mr. Maggiore said agriculture is a key sector that will boost Italy-Zambia relations.Mr. Maggiore said Italy is scheduled to host a workshop in Chisamba during the Agritech Expo, at which presentations will be made to show investment opportunities in the Zambian agriculture sector.
