Zambia Super League side Green Eagles began their CAF Champions league Journey on a winning Note after they stunned South African PSL giants Orlando Pirates 1-0 in the Preliminary Round of the Competition yesterday at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

Green Eagles head coach Aggrey Chiyangi believed the team according to the plan they had coming into the match.

“It was a tough game because pirates are an experienced team they have been playing in this Championship for a long time so what worked for us was a good plan,” he said.

“Despite me being away due to national duty everything went on well, it was me who was absent but we kept communicating.”

Orlando Pirates dominated possession but Chiyangi was not moved as he believes it was okay for them to play the passes in front of the midfield and could only be worried if they penetrated the defense.

The Eagles gaffer also revealed that they had picked some lessons from the match and that the players now know which Pirates players are the most key and influential.

“I was not concerned about the possession that they had because when I talk about the experience that’s what an experienced team would do the only thing I did not want was for them to pass through our defenders so we have to find a way of closing gaps in the defense,” he said.

“Going into the second leg the players have known who the key players are but after we have played we could see the players are mobile they always want to penetrate so when we go, South Africa, we need to make sure that we don’t concede early.”

The Choma Giants will now travel to South Africa for the return leg of the CAF Champions Scheduled to take place in two weeks time.
