Athletical Club goalkeeper Eric Makungu who was the first choice goalie for the Zambia under-17 national team at the just ended COSAFA tournament in South Africa has described the tournament as a great experience.

Zambia lost to South Africa on post-match penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time. Makungu was named as the goalkeeper of the tournament after a brilliant performance for Zambia helping them to qualify for the Morocco 2021 U-17 AFCON tournament.

The young goalkeeper says the award came as a surprise as he did not expect it. On Qualification to the AFCON, Makungu says it’s a big motivation for him and his teammates.

“It has been a great experience to be here, I have learned a lot about how football is,” he said.

” I think I did not expect it, I scooped it nevertheless, and it has given me the motivation to do better.”

“Obviously, that motivates me and we just have to push more. I would just like to urge my fellow players to remain focused and work hard when we go back to our clubs,” he added.

Both Zambia and South Africa will represent Southern Africa at the 2021 Morocco Under 17 AFCON as the COSAFA tournament this year was used as a zonal qualifier for the AFCON.
