Is It Worth Dying For Me? Asks Lungu

IS it worth dying for me? President Edgar Lungu has asked. Meanwhile, PF national chairman Samuel Mukupa says none of the former heads of State could tolerate the amount of insults that President Lungu absorbs on a daily basis.
President Lungu said he was embarrassed with the violence that was happening in Lusangazi District ahead of next Thursday’s council chairperson elections.

“If you can’t lead this time either change and work with us or wait until the next election because if you kill each other, which Zambians will be there to lead?” President Lungu wondered.

Drumming up support for PF Kasenengwa district council chairperson candidate Saul Zulu at Kasenengwa Primary School on Friday, President Lungu thanked the residents for being very peaceful during the ongoing campaigns.
“I receive reports daily on the situation on the ground in all the areas where elections are taking place and I think you are number one in terms of being non-violent. I know the Ngonis are known for their nature. They are warriors but this time you are very peaceful. Continue being peaceful, don’t be like Nsengas in Lusangazi. I had a rally in Lusangazi and have told them that I am embarrassed because I have heard that you are fighting, what are you fighting for? Lungu will remain in Lusaka and will be peaceful, HH will be in Lusaka, peaceful; Chishimba Kambwili will be in Lusaka peaceful; why should we kill ourselves here?” he asked.
President Lungu said there would be only one council chairperson who would be working for all the people just like him.
“The council chairperson will work for all of us here just like I work for all the people of Zambia. Is it worth dying for me? If you can’t lead this time, either change and work with us or wait until the next election because if you kill each other, which Zambians will be there to lead? Just yesterday (Thursday) I was talking to the Vice-President of Sudan who told me that after killing each other (Sudanese) people are now talking, so I said ‘why did you kill each other then talk? Why didn’t you talk before killing each other?’” he said.
President Lungu said he would make sure that Zambia remained united, peaceful and development oriented.
“Let me say that my search for peace doesn’t mean that I am very weak, no. I have Zambia police, I have the army, I have the air force and I have a lot of other capacities which I can use to bring peace if you force me to do so [but] that would be the last resort because I know the bible teaches us that ‘spare the rod and spoil the child’. I do not use this example because we are powerful, no, force will be the last resort that we will use (to restore peace). Let’s use love first and understanding,” he said.
President Lungu also called for an end to the confusion between the people who were aligned to late Kasenengwa member of parliament and gender minister Victoria Kalima and some PF members.
“If we have to succeed, we have to work together. If you are not ready to follow somebody as a follower, you can never become a leader. A good leader is a person who is willing to follow somebody else. Development can only come to Kasenengwa if we all work together. I have been told that people are not working together in Kasenengwa because others are calling themselves late Kalima’s people while others call themselves PF people. There is only one Zambia and one Kasenengwa Constituency. I have no time to come here to unite you, to bring development here. I will only go to places where people are peaceful and working in harmony,” he said.
President Lungu said he had heard that there were some wrangles on where the new district’s administrative centre could be sited.
“I hear some people want Chiparamba, some people want it somewhere. Please sit down together and agree on a central place where we are going to place the administrative centre for Kasenengwa,” he said.
President Lungu said the reason of turning Kasenengwa into a district was to help bring services provided by government close to the people.
“If you people don’t sit down and agree (on where the administrative centre will be situated) we will keep our money in Lusaka or maybe it will be taken elsewhere,” he said.
On the candidate Saul Zulu, President Lungu said Zulu’s competitors in the adoption process were also good but that it was his time to become council chairperson.
He asked Zulu to work with all those who wanted to contest the election on PF ticket but were not adopted.
President Lungu also announced that the poll day July 26th would be a public holiday to enable people in the areas where there are elections cast their vote.
Earlier, Mukupa said given the amount of insults that President Lungu absorbed on a daily basis, if it were in KK’s time, some people would have disappeared.
“The amount of insults he absorbs, [Frederick] Chiluba wouldn’t have tolerated, [Levy] Mwanawasa wouldn’t have tolerated, [Rupiah] Banda would not have tolerated, even Michael Sata would not have tolerated. All of us as members of Central Committee when we tell him ‘can you discipline this person’ he says there are only three things that brought him on the seat, [that is] development and see to it that Zambia is on the march and move forward like any other country,” he said.
Provincial PF chairperson Andrew Lubusha commended President Lungu for creating five new districts in the province and that the people would
pay him back by voting for PF council chairpersons in all the districts.
Lubusha said he informed the head of State about the problems like bad roads, few hospitals, schools and water that people of Kasenengwa were facing.
PF Kasenengwa campaign manager Vincent Mwale told President Lungu that the PF had held 53 meetings from the time the campaigns started and they were getting overwhelming response adding that people were happy with the declaration of the district status.
President Lungu who was on a three-day campaign tour of the province starting from Friday held campaign meetings in Lusangazi, Kasenengwa, Lumezi, Chasefu and would wrap up his tour with a rally in Chipangali this Sunday before leaving for Lusaka.
Before the Kasenengwa rally the head of state paid a courtesy call on chief Madzimawe of the Ngoni people.
