Injured keeper, Musonda, out of CAF finals

SHEPOLOPOLO second choice goalkeeper Catherine Musonda has been ruled out of the Africa Women Cup of Nations that kicks off in Ghana this weekend. Team doctor Faith Chibeza Mwansa confirmed the development from Ivory Coast where the team is camping. Mwansa said Musonda sustained the injury after colliding with a Cameroon striker in the friendly on Monday that Zambia lost 7-0.

… she and the player in the other team collided…she sustained a fracture on the left leg and she is in Plaster Of Paris and will be out for three months, she said.

Dr Mwansa said midfielder Helen Chanda who sustained a slight knock in the same match will be back before Zambias first game against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

The team left for Ghana yesterday around 18:00 hours. Zambia has been drawn in a tough Group B that comprises defending champions Nigeria, COSAFA power house South Africa and Equatorial Guinea. The tournament also acts as qualifiers to the FIFA womens World Cup.
