INFRASTRUCTURE MINISTRY TOLD TO BE STRICT WITH STANDARDS

Vice President Inonge Wina has directed the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development to ensure there is strict adherence to professional conduct, standards and delivery of quality works by architects in the country.

Mrs. Wina has further urged architects to be passionate, creative and good brand ambassadors of Zambia to the outside world in their works.

She said this during the official opening of the Zambia Institute of Architects International Conference in Livingstone today.

Mrs. Wina said architects have a moral obligation to preserve the environment for the benefit of people.

And Housing and Infrastructure Minister Vincent Mwale has advised architects, planners, engineers and other allied professionals to co-exist for the industry to remain relevant.

Meanwhile, Zambia Institute of Architects President, Sydney Ngoma, appealed to the government to support the industry by ensuring the submission of drawings are restricted to qualified architects.

Mr. NGOMA has further urged the government to consider local architects in both internally and externally funded construction projects.
