INDIA, SAUDI ARABIA DONATE TO ZAMBIA

India and Saudi Arabia have donated 1-thousand metric tons of rice and 50-tons of dates to government aimed at helping the vulnerable communities in the country.

And Minister in the Office of the Vice President Olipa Phiri has thanked the two countries for the donation, saying it will go a long way in poverty alleviation efforts.

Receiving the donation at her office in Lusaka, Ms. Phiri said Zambia has enjoyed political and economic relations with both countries for a long time.

And National Development Planning Minister Alexander Chiteme said such donations by the two countries are needed especially now in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and other natural disasters.

Meanwhile, Indian High Commissioner to Zambia Ngulkham Gangte said his country has donated rice following a pledge by his President during President Edgar Lungu’s state visit in August 2019.

And Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ambassador to Zambia Osama Bin Mohammed Krenshi said the donation the dates is a reflection of the commitment by his country try in contributing towards poverty alleviation in Zambia.

Meanwhile,  Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe said the unit has the mandate to assess the vulnerability of the various communities annually.
