First Quantum Minerals and Operating Limited says 2019 was a very challenging year due to mainly inconsistencies taxation among other challenges.

Company Management Chairman Aptone Banda says about half a year was spent on the controversy that was brought about by the introduction of sales tax to replace value added tax, a decision which was later rescinded.

Mr Banda told Phoenix News that the introduction of the sales tax and many other challenges caused slowdown of economic growth.

He said various entities had to halt operations and re-plan their businesses.
