Water Aid Zambia has noted with concern that inadequate water sanitation and hygiene services and practices at health care facilities pose a risk of health acquired infections to both health care providers and patients.

It is against this background that Water Aid Zambia has launched a 3 Million United States dollars improving water sanitation and hygiene in health care facilities project aimed at improving wash facilities in health care facilities.

Speaking during the launch of the project in Lusaka, Water Aid Country Director Pamela Chisanga says her organization has broadened the scope of interventions in the area of water and sanitation to introduce improved wash services in health care facilities in 40 health institutions in 5 districts around the country.

Ms Chisanga says the 2-years program is aimed at increasing access to sustainable water supply and sanitation services, influence adoption of hand washing practices, increase knowledge and capacity of communities in the area of wash and improve management for sustainability of water supply and sanitation services.

She has named the districts to benefit from this project as Monze, Kazungula, Kaoma, Mwense and Samfya.

And in a speech read on his behalf by principal engineer for rural water supply and sanitation Abel Manangi, Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Permanent Secretary Bishop Eddie Chomba said government values the support being given by water aid in the area of improving water supply and sanitation.
