PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has said time has shown that he is a tested leader who should get re-elected.
Mr Lungu told a ‘sea’ of people that attended the mother of all rallies at Munchinka grounds in Mansa that he has been tested and proven that he was able to be President.
“When I was appointed by my friends to run for office, some people thought I couldn’t make it but with your wisdom, I have,” he said.
Mr Lungu said his opponents did not have a track record like him.
The President also received hundreds of UB marketeers who had joined the United Party for National Development (UPND) back to the Patriotic Front (PF).
The President said people who returned to the party should work with other PF members to ensure that the PF candidates for Bahati, Harry Kalaba and Mansa Central’s Chitalu Chilufya were re-elected.
UPND UB market youth chairperson Hilary Mwansa said the UPND had no life.
Earlier, in Nchelenge, President Lungu said the country should not elect another person to be president because that would be a setback to development.
He said Zambia has had three presidents after Levy Mwanawasa died which broke continuity of projects.
That was why he had continued with late president Michael Sata’s vision so as to ensure development continued.
At a rally, Mr Lungu urged Nchelenge residents to vote for the PF candidate Anthony Malama.
He pledged to continue with all the projects started by Mr Sata.
In Mwansabombwe, Mr Lungu appealed to voters to vote for the PF candidate Rogers Mwewa.
And Christian Democratic Party president Danny Pule said the people of Luapula Province were happy that Mr Lungu had renamed Luapula University to FTJ university.
Meanwhile, Mwata Kazembe of the Lunda people of Luapula Province said President Lungu’s visit to Luapula has shown that he respects chiefs and the people of Zambia.
The Mwata said Mr Lungu should know that Luapula Province was his home. He was speaking when President Lungu visited Kazembe Royal Establishment yesterday.
“After the death of president (Michael) Sata, we are strengthened by your visit,” The Mwata said.
He said Mr Lungu cared for the people and was respectful to chiefs in Zambia.
The Mwata urged Mr Lungu not to underrate his opponents and work hard until August 11, 2016.
Mr Lungu said that he had gone to visit Mwata Kazembe to get his blessings as they visited his land.
Earlier, in Nchelenge Chief Mwata Kambwili said Luapula Province have always backed a candidate that rises to State House.
He said the same would happen this August and so Mr Lungu should be assured of re-election.
The chief was with sub chief Mukeya when he met Mr Lungu.
President Lungu has ended his Luapula Province tour.
