IG warns members of the public to desist from uttering hate speech

INSPECTOR General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has warned members of the public, Political Parties and any other grouping to desist from uttering hate speech that may disturb the country’s peace.
Kanganja also says police have instituted investigations into those that took part in the riots that broke out in Kitwe on Monday as well as on all those that orchestrated the falsehood which led to the disturbance.
In a statement, Kanganja said police are also investigating the looting of two shops belonging to foreign nationals during the riots.
The I.G further said that police are also investigating those issuing racial and discriminatory remarks which are likely to propagate xenophobic attacks.
He said the law criminalizes any act of publishing false news whether orally or in writing or any statement, rumour or report which is likely to cause fear and alarm to the public or to disturb public peace.
He said all those who had a hand in the Kitwe riots will face the wrath of the Law.
