“I Was Born In Russia, I’m Think Skinned” – Lee Kawanu Responds To Airtel Scandal

Lee KawanuFAZ executive committee member Lee Kawanu says he did not chew over K200, 000 for the Airtel Rising Stars leading to the cancellation of the talent identification programme.

Kawanu was quizzed at the Newsmakers Forum organised by The Post to explain allegations against him over the Airtel money he allegedly did not retire forcing the telecommunication company to take remedial action and abruptly end their affair with FAZ.

Gideon Kaumba, a Lilanda-based soccer administrator, took the Kafue Celtic boss to task. Kawanu was not amused about the revelations which he said were upsetting.

He said those who had questions should have asked him instead of taking the matter public. Kawanu went on to rumble about how thick skinned he was without stating whether he chewed the money or not.

“When you are in football, you need to develop a thick skin. All sorts of nonsense will be leveled against you. I was born in Russia and raised in Kafue. So I have a thick skin. I have personally sacrificed my own personal resources for these boys, how can I be linked to that nonsense?” Kawanu responded.

FAZ general secretary Ponga Liwewe cleared the air saying the Airtel Rising Stars had run its course and correspondence from the mobile provider indicated that the sponsorship had come to an end as Airtel were refocusing its marketing strategies.
