I lost over K100, 000, charges Rwandese refugee

A RWANDESE refugee who was affected by the recent looting following reports of ritual killings that rocked the country recently, has charged that he lost more than K100,000 in the fracas.
Mr Zimuranda Teouge based in Lusaka’s Chunga Township said staying in Zambia was becoming difficult because he was now depending on well-wishers to re-boost his businesses.
“During the looting I lost more than K100,000 worth of goods in my shop and boosting my business to the initial position is now very difficult because I was left with completely nothing” he said.
Mr Teouge who has been in Zambia since 1996 described his current situation as the worst knowing that Zambia was known for peace towards refugees in the nation.
He has revealed that he was back into his business after his landlord decided to lend him K700,000.
“I don’t know how others are surviving after the brutal attack and looting, it was very difficult for refugees like me to get a loan from any bank due to my status, I have a family here and can’t go back, I owe it to my landlord,” he said.
And refugees in Lusaka have expressed happiness over the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) decision to compensate refugees that were victims of the recent xenophobic attacks.
Mr Teouge has since praised the Government for accommodating refugees in the country and ensuring that they had all the protection they have had from the time they came into the country despite the xenophobic attacks the country had experienced recently.
