Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) faction leader Nevers Mumba has said that he can never talk ill of Zambia because it is his duty as a citizen to stand up for Zambia.

Dr. Mumba who is currently on a visit to India, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Zambia High Commission in New Delhi.

The former Vice President, who was welcomed by Deputy High Commissioner Sikapale Chinzewe, was informed about the current role that the mission was playing in enhancing the Economic Diplomacy agenda that the government of Zambia had initiated.

Dr. Mumba thanked the staff at the embassy for welcoming him as an Opposition leader.

“I would like to thank the Deputy High Commissioner and his team for creating an environment where an Opposition leader can be welcomed and given the necessary courtesies at a Zambia. Having served as High Commissioner of Zambia to Canada I fully understand the intricacies involved in hosting a member of the Opposition. President Lungu recently challenged Zambian Foreign Missions to treat all Zambians the same, hence I came here to taste the waters and the mission here has remained true to the directive of the head of state,” he said.

Dr. Mumba further said as an Opposition leader he is always asked why he always speaks well of Zambia when he is abroad.

“I have been asked several times why as an Opposition leader I speak well of my Country when am outside the country. I don’t know of their is anything less expected from any Zambian. When I am outside my country, not only do I speak well of my country but I do whatever is in my power to woo investors to Zambia,” he said.

“I do not speak highly of Zambia because I once held the position of Vice President. I do it because it is my duty as a Citizen to stand up for my Country. I am Nevers Sekwila Mumba because of Zambia,” Dr. Mumba said.
