High GBV cases worry police top brass

Reuben Chomba-Inspector General of Police LEMMY KAJOBA says there is urgent need to enforce laws that protect victims of Gender Based Violence -GBV- through the Gender division unit.

Mr. KAJOBA has raised concern at the continued alarming statistics of GBV cases against women and girls which stand at 75 percent.

He says it is for this reason the Police Command has reaffirmed its Commitment to combating GBV through enhanced policing.

Mr. KAJOBA was speaking in Lusaka  when he officiated at the Zambia police training on GBV for investigators and criminal investigations officers.

This was in a speech read on his behalf by Deputy inspector general of police in charge of Administration DORIS NAYAME.

Mr. KAJOBA said the training will enhance the capacity of officers to respond to GBV cases.

And European Union representative BRUNO HANSES said GBV is retrogressive to social and economic development of the country and must not be entertained.

Meanwhile, Germany cooperation Deputy Programme Manager JOHANNA STROHECKER said the police service is the key partner to help reduce GBV.
