United Party for National Development (UPND) presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema and his running mate Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba have successfully filed in their nomination papers to officially launch their bid for the republican presidency and vice-presidency. Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chairperson Justice Esau Chulu declared Hichilema and Mwamba’s nomination papers valid having ascertained that the duo had met all the required qualifications . This brought and end to months of speculation and uncertainty regarding the identity of the running mate.
And addressing scores of supporters outside the Mulungushi International Conference Center shortly after, Hichilema declared war on poverty and illiteracy.
He thanked Mwamba, comonly known as GBM, for agreeing to become his running mate. He however reserved special thanks for UPND vice-president for politics Canisious Banda for showing magnanimity following the decision to pick Mwamba over him.
