By Wilson Mulinda:Gender Minister Elizabeth Phiri has challenged government and private institutions to prioritise activities that sensitise against child marriage and its consequences.Mrs. Phiri says investing in such programs will curb the vice and also deter those that are considering sending their children into early marriage.Speaking during a cocktail reception in Lusaka, Mrs. Phiri said child marriage lead to greater exposure to gender-based violence.Meanwhile General Education Permanent Secretary Jobbicks Kalumba said negligence of parents contributes negatively to the rising cases of child marriage.And United Nations Resident Coordinator Coumba Mar Gadio commended the Ministry of Gender for their work in leading and coordinating the campaign to end child marriage and for implementing the strategy countrywide.
