Hamukale Calls for Investment in Energy

Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale has appealed to the Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank to support Zambia’s plan to invest in alternative sources of energy.Dr. Hamukale says the current use of hydro generated power has proved to be a challenge in the face of climate change.He says Southern Province generates over 80 per cent of Zambia’s electricity and that the drought which has affected the region has had a negative impact on power supply in the country.Dr. Hamukale was speaking when Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Admassu Tadesse visited him in Livingstone.And Mr. Tadesse said Zambia is among the top five countries which the Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank supports in Africa.Mr. Tadesse assured Dr. Hamukale that there is a general willingness and interest at the bank to consider supporting investment in the energy sector in Zambia.
