Hamasaka Escapes Lynching

HamasakaClayson Hamasaka, the local editor of the Zambian Watchdog has come under fire from the rank and file of the opposition UPND for the negative stories he recently carried especially over the adoption process for the forthcoming presidential, parliamentary, mayoral and local government elections.

Highly placed sources in the opposition political party say the former Evelyn Hone College journalism lecturer on Friday 3rd June, 2016 escaped the wrath of some irate UPND youths who wanted his blood at the party’s secretariat in Lusaka and was only saved by some senior UPND members who intervened. The youths had gathered at the secretariat in readiness for Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s filing of his presidential nomination later that afternoon. The same youths are said to have vowed to sort out Mr Hamasaka if he continues with his negative stories on the UPND and Mr Hichilema and reminded him of what they did to Chilufya Tayali. One of the stories that may have brought about the fall out was the one published on 31st May, 2016 entitled “UPND circulates list of candidates after messing process.”

Other sources have indicated that Mr Hamasaka has been writing negatively about the opposition party and its leader because the UPND president has clashed with the journalist over concerns of substance abuse, telling him he would have to clean up his act in order to serve as a government official. Sources say that Hamasaka has long positioned himself for the position of press aide and is often overheard talking about it while spending time at the lodge near his residence in Chalala just beyond Woodlands Stadium.

Both Mr Hichilema and Mr Hamasaka were unavailable for comment as their phones were switched off.
