Zambia Women Under-20 national team coach Charles Halubono believes the team has done very well and they are progressing very well with the support they have received from the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) as they prepare for the 2019 COSAFA U20 Women Championships.

Halubono who also doubles up as Green Buffaloes Women National team coach is assessing the team which has been assembled in a short time. He is confident he has enough time to work with the girls ahead of the inaugural tournament.

“So far we have done well. We are progressing very well with the support from the FA. The team has been put together in a short time but we have enough time to work with them,” he said.

Halubono further stressed the importance of having good progression with age groups from U-17, U-20, U-23 and then the senior national team.

“We had skipped the U-20 which was automatically affecting the U-23 and the senior team, now that we have the under 20 it will help to make that gradual development of our teams and its a good thing,” he said.

The draws for the inaugural 2019 COSAFA U20 Women’s Championship were conducted on 3rd July 2019 at COSAFA House in Johannesburg. Zambia was drawn in Group B alongside Botswana, Tanzania, and ESwatini.

Group A will have South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. The Under-20 tournament will run alongside the senior Women tournament from August 1st-11th in South Africa’s Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
