Green Eagles are having another fairytale season following their qualification for the CAF Champions League for the first time in the clubs history as they will finish top of stream B in the 2019 transitional league.

The major works they did on the Independence Stadium in choma was worth it as they won’t face troubles of playing their home matches in Lusaka if the stadium meets the requirements (The football side of course because other requirements are beyond them).

Not only has the Choma based team qualified for continental football but they have also qualified for the ABSA cup and have a chance to win the league when they play in the play off against winners of stream A to decide the Champions of the transitional league. The kawale boys have a chance to win both the ABSA Cup and the 2019 transitional league.

Green eagles have an average wage bill and a wealth of Zambian talent at their disposal. The majority of the players are those who barely made the grade at other teams, the likes of Gift Wamundila who was not a regular at Green Buffaloes but has once again found his form and is playing very well, Warren Kunda who was released by nkana and now he is at the heart of the Eagles’ defense, another example is Kennedy Musonda formerly of Lusaka Dynamos and Zanaco were he did not excel to a high standard but under Chiyangi these players have found their form and are doing wonders for the Tonka Tweende boys who will be back in continental football come September.

Green Eagles did not have to splash a lot of money to assemble the current squad that they have and they don’t have players who are on huge salaries and wining bonuses. They don’t even have foreign players currently in the team and most of the players have been recruited in the Zambia national service as a way of motivating them.

The player are able to compete in the league and if not for that last minute goal they conceded in Tunisia they would have made it to the group stage of the CAF confederations cup. They have players who have been with the club in the hard and difficult times, the likes of Kizito Cheelo, spencer sautu, Mateo Ndashe and captain fantastic Caesar Hakaloba.

They have also recruited former players to help the technical bench to maintain the club values and discipline. Aggrey Chiyangi and his technical bench have turned things around and turned the structure of the club with the little available resources that the club has, they are now a force to reckon with in the Zambian Super League and the question now remains will they be a force to reckon with in Africa? We will have to wait for the start of the CAF Champions league campaign.
