Grant targets second place despite World Cup dream evaporating

Chipolopolo Boys coach Avram Grant is optimistic that Zambia can still qualify to the FIFA 2026 World Cup.

Following Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat to Tanzania on match day 4, Zambia’s dream of a maiden appearance at a FIFA World Cup might be over.

With Morocco thumping Congo Brazaville 6-0, and consolidating their position at the summit of Group E, Grant has targeted second place to salvage the country’s World Cup dream.

“We have created a good team; even with the loss today, I can say Zambia has a good future.

“We will continue fighting for second place in the group. We have a chance in the remaining four games if we take all the points, anything can happen.

“My target, is to go back to Africa Cup and do well.”

Zambia has only picked up one victory and lost three games in this campaign.
