Grace Chanda wins big at Women’s Awards gala ….As Katongo scoops young player
Red Arrows star Grace Chanda was the big winner on Friday night at the inaugural FAZ Women’s Football Awards gala as she walked away with the player of the season and top goalscorer accolade.
Chanda scored 35 goals in the league to walk away with the top goalscorer’s gong. The Copper Queens forward then saw off competition from defenders Margaret Belemu and Lushomo Mweemba to win the best player of the season.
U-20 skipper Evarine Susan Katongo was named young player of the year award, Lushomo Mweemba took home the best defender award while Green Buffaloes skipper Joana Benaya was named best midfielder.
Mary Wilombe was awarded as the most disciplined player, Aisha Mbwana scooped the golden glove accolade, and Super League winning gaffer Charles Haalubono walked away with the best coach award.
Moses ‘Pedro’ Mwanza scooped the best online media coverage award with Wezi Mazyunda walking away with the mainstream media award.
Copper Queens midfielder Mary Mwakapila who is currently unwell was recognized with the Presidential award.
