GOVT, TOPSTAR SIGN AGREEMENT ON ZANIS TV

Government has signed the service level agreement with Topstar Communications Company Limited on the use of digital Television Transmission Network by ZANIS Television Channel.

The ZANIS Channel is set to start transmission before the end of the year.

Speaking during the signing ceremony Information and Media Permanent Secretary KENNEDY KALUNGA said the signed agreement is a clear indication of government’s commitment to ensure equal access to information for all citizens so that they can effectively participate in national development.

Mr. KALUNGA said the agreement is important as it prescribes modalities on how ZANIS will cooperate with Topstar in the operation of the Television channel.

Meanwhile Topstar Communications Company Limited Chief Executive Officer JOHN ZHUANGY said ZANIS has been on test transmission for the past three months and the addition of the channel means that Topstar has fulfilled its mandate to carry five free to air
channels on its platform.

And ZANIS Director LOYCE SAILI said the signing of the agreement is a start of an exciting journey as the channel will be able to provide news and bring unique content as it has presence in over 100 districts in the country.
