GOVT TO VACCINATE CATTLE AGAINST FMD

By NAIS:Over one hundred and eight three thousand cattle will be vaccinated against Foot and Mouth Disease -FMD- in Southern Province.Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale says the first round of vaccinations have already been completed and the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock is currently doing the second round.Dr. Hamukale says he is grateful to the government for procuring three hundred and thirty-six thousand doses of the vaccines’ worth over One Million United States dollars for vaccination of cattle in the province.He said this when Fisheries and Livestock Minister Nkandu Luo paid a courtesy call on him.Dr. Hamukale also appealed to Professor Luo to consider lifting the ban on livestock movement in the province.He said this will help the people who mostly depend on cattle as their source of income.And Professor Luo said the ban on livestock movement is meant to contain the diseases.She said her ministry will however consider lifting the ban once it is satisfied that the disease has been fully contained through the measures that have put in place.
