GOVT TO MAKE BUSINESS THRIVE

BY JUSTINE AKAKULUBELWA

Finance Minister, SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE, says the government is determined to create a business environment where both the public and private sector enterprises will thrive.

Speaking at the fifth Industrial Development Corporation -IDC- Group Conference, Dr. MUSOKOTWANE assured that the new dawn government will make the business environment in the country as easy and friendly as possible.

Dr. MUSOKOTWANE says this is because a good business environment will help tackle youth unemployment in the country which, he says, is currently high.

And the Minister, who has acknowledged the progress recorded by IDC in recent years, has warned government enterprises under IDC against engaging in massive projects that may cause losses in future.

He says there will be no financial guarantees from the government and that projects that will be embarked on by the IDC should stand on their own.

Speaking at the same event, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Parastatal Bodies, BRIAN KAMBITA, urged state owned enterprises to ensure that they create value for society and are managed professionally and transparently.

Mr. KAMBITA says professionalism and transparency are key in creating sound public governance, and a precondition for trust in government and markets.

And IDC Chairperson of the Investment Committee, Father LEONARD CHITI, says IDC has elected to invest where the natural resources are located.

Father CHITI says this is expected to create jobs and wealth across the country.
