GOVT TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO FINANCE

(ZANIS) Government will continue to work with the private sector to increase access to financial services among Zambians living in rural areas.

Northern Province Minister LEONARD MBAO  says it is a worrying that most citizens in rural parts of the country do not have access to financial services.

Speaking during the official launch of UNIFI in Kasama, Mr. MBAO commended the financial institution for making life easy for the people by taking its services closer to the communities in different localities across the country.

The Minister explained that access to appropriate and affordable financial services, helps individuals drive economic growth.

He said this is because access to suitable financial services and products enables women, men and the youth to save, borrow, build their assets and invest in income generating ventures.

The Minister said this in a speech read on his behalf by Acting Provincial Permanent Secretary SINEVA KAMBENJA.

Mr. MBAO however noted that while the overall achievement of increasing financial inclusion is encouraging, several challenges still remain in the sector especially for the rural parts of the country.

And UNIFI Chief Operations Officer LILLIAN BWALYA said the financial institution has over the years expanded.

Ms. BWALYA said UNIFI which was founded in 2007 started with only three branches and now has 29 branches across the country.
