GOVT TO FIGHT FALL ARMY WORMS

By Josiah Mpofu:

More than 1-hundred and 50-thousand hectares of cropped land has been destroyed by the fall army worms.

This has affected about 2-hundred and 70- thousand households.

Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo says the Government is determined to fight the Fall Army worms that have ravaged most maize fields across the country.

Speaking when he visited some fields in Chongwe district, Mr. Mtolo emphasized the need for more control measures against the Army Worms as they are a menace to household and national food security.

He has advised farmers across the country to remain vigilant and report any pest outbreak to their nearest extension officers as government has procured all the chemicals required to control the pest.

Mr. Mtolo has however expressed sadness over the heavy rains that have destroyed over 16-thousand hectares of cultivated land of various crops in several districts.

And Chongwe District Commissioner Evans Lupiya has thanked government for distributing 1-thousand 6-hundred liters of chemicals to help in controlling the army worm infestation in the district.
